I joined the movement in 1977 as a cub and then a scout at 3rd Ashton Under Lyne (St James’), I continued my youth membership in Venture Scouts at 2/1st Hurst. My first role as an Adult volunteer was Assistant Scout Leader at 12th Ashton. Work moved me south where a wife and children also happened!! I returned to scouting through my children where I took on the role of Group Scout Leader. Whilst in that role and just managing to squeeze of little more than the one hour per week I also sat on the District and County Executives and was Chairman of the Appointments Advisory Committee. My current role as County Training Manager involves Managing the Adult training provision along with my role as Deputy County Commissioner for Adult Support. Outside of Scouting I am a Quantity Surveyor by profession but currently employed as a Civil Engineering Estimator where I also act as examiner for the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors. I also play the cornet, badly.
