Dene is Deputy County Commissioner for the City of Manchester which comprises the Scout Districts or North Manchester & Manchester South.
My family has been associated with scouting ever since my grandfather joined his local scout troop in 1911. I am proud to be able to continue this tradition joining as a beaver then working my way up through the sections eventually becoming a leader. As a parent it is great to see both my sons enjoying scouting and the opportunities available to them.
My leadership journey began in Northern Ireland as a Scout Leader and continued in GME initially as an Explorer Unit Leader then I was asked to join the GME County Team as ACC for Explorers. This role gave me an opportunity to develop the opportunities available to our Explorers which continue to this day.
I am fortunate to now be the Deputy County Commissioner for the City of Manchester and part of the GME Management Team. This has been a challenging and rewarding role which has enabled me to work with some very talented people. Together we have worked hard and the districts continue to grow year on year with more young people and adults joining the movement.
The mantra for the City of Manchester Scouts is Scouting is fun for all. When we all work together so much more can be achieved, both the young people and adults learn important skills for life.
