22nd World Scout Jamboree, Sweden 2011

Youth Participants (Young People) - Applications for GME Contingent is now closed

What is a World Scout Jamboree?

Despite its size, a WSJ is not just a big camp - it is much more than that. Those who have been to a WSJ find it difficult to describe what makes it so special. The activities, the ceremonies, the Sub Camp festivals and Unit life. There is an incredible atmosphere generated by so many Scouts living together and being part of the world wide family.

The biggest event in World Scouting and unique to Scouting - Over 30,000 young people from all over the world camping together for 10 days and taking part in a range of events and activities. An event bigger then the Olympic games in terms of the number of Countries represented.

Where and When?

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree will be held in Kristianstad, in southern Sweden from 27th July 2011 to 7th August 2011.

Participants will depart 2 or 3 days before the start for a Pre- Jamboree Experience and return home a few days after the Closing Ceremony, having participated in Home Hospitality.

For the 22nd WSJ, Greater Manchester East (GME). Will be taking 63 youth participants. We hope to see a fair representation of age, gender and background and that all GME districts are fairly represented.

Home Hospitality (Ho – Ho)

Home Hospitality, usually referred to as Ho – Ho, will follow the WSJ and gives the units a further 2 or 3 days in one of Sweden’s neighbouring Eastern European countries, probably staying with host families.

Cost

The cost for the whole WSJ experience will be no more than £ 2,000.  As per previous WSJ’s, Units and individuals will be required to plan and support fundraising initiatives. We anticipate this will include some financial support from Districts and Groups. The ability to pay should not stop anyone from applying, as bursaries and other funding will be available.

What is included in the cost?

All activities and events during the WSJ, the pre- event and Ho- Ho
All main meals for the duration of the experience
Unit equipment (including sleeping tents, cooking equipment and dining accommodation)
Travel to and from the WSJ experience
Personal kit (Including Uniform, badges, scarf, woggle, day-sac and holdall)
Support before the event (newsletters/ preparation days, evenings and weekends)
A truly unique experience… priceless!
